Last night, after a long work day, for no particular reason, I found myself in my study, dipping into books by Mary Oliver. Tonight I return with more intention. Much of her writing will, no doubt, continue to speak to me.

It started before yesterday’s Tuesday night class. There was a piece of fuzz next to one of the students mats–a schmutz. Ahh. “Free the mind.” Free it of ignorance and being stuck in old, tired patterns of thinking—societal, ancestral, and created from our own lived experience. Free the mind to imagine, create, deduce, consider alternatives and choices and cause and effect. Celebrate the mind to free it to enhance our being, individual and communal.
This vendor was right outside a Siva temple we visited on the day after we went to Rameshwaram. I don’t remember the name of the temple (I was not good about writing down the names of the temples that were added to the itinerary after the fact). I liked the temple more than many. Partly…
